Notifications

Orchard Stack keeps you informed about delivery alerts, volunteer activity, and more through notifications. Notifications can arrive in-app, by email, and by SMS depending on your settings.
Navigation: Click the bell icon in the top-right corner of any page.


🔔 Notification Bell & Dropdown

The bell icon in the header displays an unread count badge when you have new notifications.
  • Click the bell to open a dropdown with your 10 most recent notifications
  • Each notification shows a title, message, color-coded level (info / success / warning / error), and timestamp
  • From the dropdown you can: Mark all as read, View all notifications, or Dismiss individual items


📋 Notification List (Full Page)

The full notifications page shows a paginated list of all your active notifications.
  • Visiting the page automatically marks unread items as read (a blue dot indicates newly read)
  • Click a notification title to navigate to the related record
  • Actions: Dismiss individual notifications, Dismiss All, or click the link to Notification Preferences
Dismissed notifications are permanently removed from your view.

Volunteer notification types only appear when Volunteer Management is enabled for your organization.


📬 Delivery Channels

  • In-App — Appear in the bell dropdown and the full notifications page
  • Email — Sent to your account email address; some notification types support digest batching
  • SMS — Text messages sent to volunteer phone numbers; requires opt-in
If you're receiving too many individual emails, turn on Email Digest mode in your Notification Preferences.


⚙️ Managing Your Notification Preferences

Navigation: Click your user menu (top-right) > Notification Preferences
  • For each notification type and channel, choose: Default (inherit organization setting), On, or Off
  • A lock icon indicates a channel is Required or Unavailable — these cannot be changed by you
  • A "Customized" badge and Reset button appear when your settings differ from the defaults
When in doubt, leave everything set to Default — your admin has already configured sensible organization-wide settings.

Email Digest

  • In the Email Settings section, toggle "Batch email notifications into a digest"
  • When enabled, eligible email notifications are collected and sent in periodic batches instead of individually
